Light Jet (C25B-class)

A light business jet: quick, responsive and a reward for flying well.

The Light Jet approximates a small business jet. It is much lighter than the airliner, so it responds quickly, climbs like a rocket and cruises fast and high with room to spare.

That responsiveness cuts both ways. The same light controls that make it a joy at altitude punish rushed approaches, so it is the aircraft that rewards the habits you built in the others.

Fly it gently and it is calm. Grab the controls and it reacts at once, so the best flying with it looks almost lazy: small inputs, early decisions and a descent planned long before the runway comes into view.

Key Numbers

  • Role: light business jet
  • Approximates: C25B
  • Unlocks at: level 12
  • Maximum takeoff mass: 6,291 kg
  • Stall, landing configuration: 82 kt
  • Stall, clean: 100 kt
  • Flaps may be used below: 161 kt
  • Normal operating limit: 260 kt
  • Never exceed: 278 kt
  • Rotate at about: 120 kt
  • Approach at about: 105 kt

Speeds are indicated airspeed in knots as the simulator models them; the real type is only the thing this aircraft approximates.

How It Flies

  • Controls are light: use small inputs, especially in pitch, near the ground.
  • It accelerates quickly. Pull the power back early in the descent or you will arrive fast.
  • Approach speed is high for its size. Fly the numbers and avoid floating down the runway.
  • Keep the nose low in the climb until the speed is up, then trade speed for height.
  • Ease the power back once you reach the height you want, or the speed keeps building.

What To Practise

  • Climb as high as it will go and cruise there for a while: the air is thin and the margins are small.
  • Fly a quick turnaround mission: land, take off and land again at a different airport.
  • Land on a short runway and stop with room to spare.
  • Fly a 180-degree turn at cruise altitude, then roll out with the aircraft settled and no overshoot.
  • Fly a descent from cruise to the pattern and count how far from the runway you start it.
